HOW DO OUR ACCENT REDUCTION LESSONS WORK?

  • 30 or 40-hour course?
The answer to this question depends on how accurately you want to speak. Do you want spontaneous accuracy with your accent (in real conversation settings) or do you want to control your speech just when you are reading from a piece of paper or a book?
The 40-hour package will give us the time to both master the foundations and then move onto the areas where you find it challenging to control your accent but at the same time need it most, be it giving presentations at work, singing, teaching groups of students or giving interviews.
  1. Sessions 1 through 10
During this time you will get to know each sound of British English and by the end of the 10th session you will know how they differ from one another. Your muscles will also begin to produce the right articulation every time you speak.
  2. Sessions 10 through 20
During these sessions, the focus will be on the three very important features in any language – word stress, rhythm, and intonation. When teaching intonation we will use recordings made by native speakers as well as the skills and knowledge of our native speaker coaches.
  3. Sessions 20 through 30
In this module, you will be practicing big stories and presentations imitating sounds, rhythm, and intonation of the native speaker recording. By the time of this module, you will begin to hear your own mistakes and start correcting them yourself. Noticing your mistakes and correcting them will be the best way for you to deliver accurate pronunciation. Throughout this module we will be recording your voice during the sessions and you will be recording yourself between the sessions to make sure your ears notice your mistakes as soon as possible.
  4. Sessions 30 through 40
During these sessions, we will be analyzing and presenting larger bodies of text for you to read that will be useful for your specific profession. As well as this, we continue to work on any weaknesses that you still have. It is important that what you are learning is relevant and transferable to your everyday life. To ensure this, we will examine how you use English regularly in your daily life. Some of our clients are singers, presenters, teachers, coaches, or interpreters. Where possible we will use your authentic English videos or audios that you have and identify the weaknesses in them, which will help us to improve your performance for when these real life conversations appear.
A number of recordings from the customized module of our course will be available at the end of the course. This will help you improve your accent post course, whilst also using your own new skills and knowledge. Along with this, we will make another recording of the text that you read at the initial consultation and we will evaluate your progress as you can see in the video below.
